How to play Meowdoku

The board is divided into coloured regions. Place exactly one cat in each region, without putting two in the same row or column. Cats must not touch, even at a corner. The official store description says to double-tap a tile to place a cat and describes three hearts for mistakes.

Start with what cannot work

Before choosing a square, inspect the constraints it must satisfy. A square may fit its coloured region but still conflict with a cat in the same row. Check the region, row, column and neighbouring squares together. Passing only one of these checks is not enough.

  1. Look for a region with very few possible positions. Compare those positions against cats you have already placed.
  2. After a confirmed placement, eliminate its row, column and all touching squares from consideration for other cats.
  3. Return to regions you checked earlier. Removing possibilities can leave a region with just one legal square.

A small deduction example

Imagine a region has two candidate squares. One lies in the same row as a confirmed cat; the other does not conflict with any placement. The first candidate is eliminated, leaving the second as that region's only possibility. This is a hypothetical teaching example, not a published Meowdoku level. It assumes the earlier placement is correct and all other constraints have been checked.

Distinguish an uncertain idea from a confirmed placement. A guess can create a chain of deductions that looks convincing but rests on the wrong starting point. The tips here explain logical elimination; they do not guarantee a solution to every board or replace the app's own instructions.
